16 Jul Local RSPCA Launch Exciting New Running Challenge
Last week local branch RSPCA North Wiltshire visited Enterprise Works in Swindon to launch their inaugural charity race “Last One Running”. The race which will be held in Lydiard Park on 19th August will test competitors pacing, stamina and finally speed as they attempt to complete as many laps of a two mile course as possible, with time allowed for each lap reduced by one minute each time. Think of the bleep test in Phys Ed. at school!
Race organiser and spokesperson for RSPCA North Wilts Katie North explains “The race will kick off at 11.30 sharp, with all runners geared up in the holding area. They will have 25mins to complete the first loop and only those back within the allocated time will be allowed to continue. The time will be reduced by one minute for every loop until there is only one male and female runner at the start line, they will be the last ones running!”
Katie says “We are really excited about this race. The short course format means it’s suitable for more leisurely joggers but it will also really test the more serious crowd, with potential for the last ones running to complete distances over a marathon! It’s also going to be a brilliant spectator event with a café and playground on-site making it a great day out for the whole family”.
Cash prizes of £100 will be awarded to the winning male & female, kindly provided by Swindon based race sponsor Enterprise Works. Initially setup as a timber workshop providing employment opportunities for vulnerable adults with physical/mental disabilities and other barriers to employment, EW has since expanded into retail sales, signs & design work, and also provides a community meals service. Katie states; “We are very grateful to have EW on board as our race sponsor. The work they do providing training and career opportunities for the disadvantaged is really wonderful and we hope our partnership continues well into the future.”
